What to expect
Small groups, always
Classes stay small on purpose. Your child will be known by name, and there is room for them to speak up in every session.
Live, not recorded
Every class is taught live by Dianna. Children see and talk to each other, and to her.
Materials arrive first
If the course includes an art kit, it ships to your home before the term begins. You do not need to source anything.
Something to carry home
Each class ends with a prompt for the week — a conversation, a challenge, or something to make.
What you need
Nothing unusual, and nothing to buy.
A device with a camera
A laptop, tablet, or desktop. A larger screen helps for the making-focused classes.
A steady internet connection
Enough to hold a video call. If a session drops, tell us and we will help your child catch up.
Google Meet
Classes run on Google Meet. We send the link before the first session — no account setup needed on your end.
Google Classroom
Projects, resources, and reflections live in Google Classroom, so nothing gets lost in email.
A little table space
For the classes with kits, somewhere your child can spread out and get a bit messy.
Common questions
- What if my child is shy?
- Good. Every class begins with Root — the part that exists precisely so a quiet child feels safe before anything is asked of them. Children are never forced to speak, and most start volunteering within a few sessions.
- What if my child misses a class?
- Tell us and we will send the materials and the reflection prompt so they can do it at home. For classes with a kit, nothing is lost — the supplies are already theirs.
- Is my child the right age?
- Age ranges are a guide, not a rule. If your child sits near a boundary, write to us and we will tell you honestly which group fits them better.
- Can siblings take the same class?
- Yes. Each child needs their own seat and their own kit, but you only fill out the enrollment form once.
- How long is a term?
- Terms follow the California school calendar, with a fall term and a spring term. Exact dates are listed on each course page.
- Do you offer classes in Spanish?
- We teach Spanish as a subject in Spanish Explorers. All other classes are taught in English, though this website is available in both languages.
